Capel Rugs creates Web sites for retailers

Offers full line with search functions

-- Kids Today, 6/29/2009 2:54:00 PM

TROY, N.C. — Capel Rugs says it is making its area rugs and related products available for sale to consumers online through preferred dealer Web sites the company has created and launched in cooperation with retailers.

Consumers can access the dealer sites by selecting an item for purchase on the CapelRugs.com site and entering their ZIP code.

“There seems to be some growth in (the youth) market,” Bud Young, Capel vice president told Kids Today. “It’s certainly important to us – we continue to put effort into the product. But we are having trouble finding the retailer to put the products together.”

To that end, Capel has developed the Web strategy that Young said he hopes will allow smaller dealers to carry the line. The company accepts orders directly from consumers on Capelrugs.com, which are then routed back to a preferred vendor based on the ZIP code of the order. The retailer processes the order, keeps the profits, and Capel drop-ships the rug directly to the buyer.

“Not every consumer has access to a baby-only store,” he said. “And it can be hard to find these products at a floor-covering store.” But he said independent retailers can work with Capel to set up a customized Web site with only youth designs and still be able to capture some of the market without having to inventory or even display the rugs.

Capel, whose line includes rugs, padding and cleaning supplies, said in a press release that the preferred-dealer strategy “is leveraging online technology in an innovative way that values existing dealer relationships.” It said the sites can help retailers increase revenues while providing consumers access to secure online shopping.

Dealers can opt into the program for the initial cost to host the site and a monthly fee. Each customizable site offers Capel’s full continuity line and is regularly updated with new products.

Consumers can search the Web site by color scheme, designer or style. Rugs also are available in a variety of constructions, shapes and sizes.
