Art Van Furniture honors charity recipients
Company gave away $1 million on its anniversary

LANSING, Mich. — The 50 recipients of the Art Van Million Dollar Charity Challenge were honored at a gala reception here that drew 250 people.Festivities included performances by Grammy Award-winning singer Vickie Winans, cirque troupe Il Circo, and the Simone Vitale Band.
The Charity Challenge kicked off the Warren, Mich.-based retailer’s 50th anniversary celebrations earlier this year by distributing $1 million ours to 50 non-profit organizations in Michigan. Grants ranged from $5,000 to $50,000 for children’s, health and human services programs
“We are extremely pleased to be able to help these deserving Michigan charities,” said Art Van Elslander, founder and chairman of the 32-store Top 100 company. “I believe it is our responsibility to give back to the community, especially when you’re fortunate to be as successful as we’ve been for five decades.&rdquo
Two other galas have been held this month at Art Van’s flagship Warren showroom and the Flint, Mich., store, and a final party will take place at the Grand Rapids, Mich., showroom Oct. 28.
