For more than 40 years, First Candle has been dedicated to saving babies’ lives. Originally known as the SIDS Alliance, First Candle was instrumental in the national Back to Sleep Campaign.

The organization has since worked hard to lead the way to support Kicks Count, the first-ever, national risk-reduction campaign to end still birth. The new campaign was initiated as studies show that significant changes in a baby’s activity level during the last trimester could be a signal that there is a problem.

By performing a kick count and logging the results every day during this time, parents will get to know what is normal for their baby and be able to report any changes to your doctor.

For more information on the Kicks Count campaign, visit www.firstcandle.org/kickscount.

First Candle’s key program areas are:

  • Research, to help identify causes and develop preventive strategies
  • Public Education, to deliver lifesaving messages to new and expectant parents
  • Family support services, to provide compassionate support to all those affected by the death of a baby

SIDS remains the number one cause of death for infants one month to one year of age, and First Candle has become a vital, compassionate resource for families grieving from the tragic loss of an infant, providing comfort and a sense of community during their difficult time. Every day, seven babies die of SIDS. Every year, more than 26,000 infant lives are lost to stillbirth. The community’s support of First Candle’s efforts is crucial. Regal Lager’s way to help is to help raise awareness among the media, so that correct and updated information is conveyed to the general public regarding SIDS related issues.

Proceeds from the gala, including an impressive silent auction, will support the Alexander Williamson-Noble Memorial Fund at First Candle.
