NYC Baby and Kids Fair starts off great

-- Kids Today, 2/1/2010 7:49:00 AM

NEW YORK – Opening day at the NYC Baby and Kids Fair, which runs Friday, Jan. 30 through today, was upbeat with buyers from across the United States and around the world, walking the corridors and sourcing products from a diverse and interesting range of  kids and baby accessories, toys, furnishings and gear. The exhibitor mix and intimate feel of the space really made for a successful first day.

The kick-off keynote address by Jenny Heinzen York, editorial director of Kids Today, gave attendees valuable insight into juvenile market trends. Buyers commenting on the shopping experience confirmed the strategy behind this first-ever dedicated baby/kids focused exhibition being held in the 11th floor concurrently with the 7 W New York Gift and Home Textiles Market Week, Jan. 29 – Feb. 4.

Highlights from NYC Baby & Kids Fair exhibitors on 11 include:

Boon has a super cool, contemporary aesthetic and is a brand best known for their popular Frog Pod Bath toy/organizer. At the show, they presented several clever new wall display/organizers Curl, Peek and Snag as well as Grass, a countertop drying rack.

Chi Chi Baby and Picture Frames by Posh Pics were two exhibitors showing fresh baby and kid options. Chi Chi Baby exhibited trendy, embellished baby bottles that are unlike anything else on the market, while Picture Frames by Posh Pics displayed hand-made frames with delicate crackled paint finishes, bows and other unusual embellishments.

The Bomb Mom showed clever and stylish shirts for moms that do everything with flair.

Brett Klisch’s company Belly Buds had its New York launch here. The innovative product features a special sound system which send music waves into a mommy-to-be’s tummy so that babies in utero can hear iPhone selections – or grandma and grandpa on the phone for the first time

Judith Frey, founder of JudiZuzu, was also launching her company at 7 W. She makes one of a kind tables/toy boxes that are hand-painted and constructed in the United States. Consumers can order them with 1-4 painted sides.

Sleeping Partners showed their popular Moses baskets/gift sets, perfect for shower gifts and newborns.

Mike Monaghan showed First Toddle, a toy system has more than six configurations that grow with a child. Starting as a play gym for an infant, it converts to a tent, basket-ball hoop and soccer goal.

Pinkaxel showed groovy rock couture hats with pink motorcycles, peace signs, cars, crosses and skeletons… this was their first market.

Loretta Schneider of Larrivo displayed stretchy sleepwear for mommies-to-be and new moms in bold modern patterns and colors.

Paulette Zazzara of Primo demonstrated the versatile bathing/changing table that can be wheeled into any room in the house.

Mimijumi showed a bottle that more closely mimics the shape of a mother’s nipple to ensure early bonding and ease for mothers as they start to wean.

This is a small selection of the many product stand-outs on display at the show.  NYC Baby and Kids Fair which runs until 8 p.m. today. For more information visit www.7wnewyork.com.
