ABC Thoughts
September 19, 2007

I'm behind on my blogs mainly because I've been swamped. It's been an incredibly busy summer and as I was telling someone today, since the Kids Today conference I've been to Las Vegas twice, Atlanta, New York and most recently Cologne, Germany. In between those shows we've actually managed to put out issues of the magazine : )

I was catching up on Kelly and Aaron's blogs and thought I'd add my 2 cents about ABC, starting with Kelly's list of questions.

1.  What was best part of the show?
For me it was not only seeing the new product but it was connecting, in person, with people I email/talk to on the phone throughout the year. This being my second ABC I had a Catch22 situation. Last year I could pretty much walk around inconspicuously. This year it was a little more difficult. This was a good and bad thing---good because I got to visit with more retailers/vendors and bad because there was SO much ground to cover. Editorially Kids Today had four people there to cover the show, and even at that I'm not sure we made it to each and every booth.
2.  What was the worst part of the show?
I have to agree with Aaron that being stalked in the aisle by vendors was uncomfortable. You want to give everyone the opportunity to show their product, but sometimes it was difficult.
3.  What would you do to improve the ABC show?
I would love to see it organized by category. I talked to several people at the show about this, some for it and some against it. I see both sides, but from a purely selfish point of view it would make it much easier for us to cover : )
4.  What was the worst thing that happened at your store while you were away?
I guess the worst thing that happened while I was away, since I don't have a store, was the mail piled up, deadlines backing up and the fact that my 10 year old "got back together" with her "boyfriend" from last year : )
5.  What was the best thing that happened while you were away?
Really, for me the best part of shows (aside from the product) is connecting with our friends in the industry. Another good thing that happened while we were in Vegas is that we finalized the details for the 2008 Kids Today conference! Yeah! Ok, well, by details I mean we have a time and place---first week of March in Savannah, Ga.
6.  Overall, would you say that the show was a success and benefited your store?  Why?
Again, I don't have a store but it should provided alot for us to write about : )
