Filing and organizing
July 5, 2007

July 4th week is typically a good time to get caught up on things that have been neglected in the office — like filing and organizing.

There is a method to our madness at Kids Today. We visit a lot of trade shows throughout the year and pick up a lot of press kits and product information. We get sent even more via email and snail mail. We keep all of this filed by company and by product category.

I had neglected to file my press kits since....oh about January. I knew where they were and could get to them when needed — they were either in a box on the floor in my pod or among the several piles on my desk. I tackled them all today and everything is in its place.

As I was filing, I realized there are several companies we have files on who only have one product; not one collection or line but one product.

Retailers, do you often buy from companies that have only one product? Are you interested to read about them in the magazine? Obviously we found them interesting or we wouldn't have picked up the information, but do we spin our wheels when we report on products/companies that are one-hit wonders?
