Baby Clothes? Don't Forget The Accessories!
November 27, 2007

From socks and shoes to bows and hats, accessories are an important part of our clothing line.  The only buying area for our store in which I am involved is hair bows.  I believe that these are, in many ways, one of the greatest items in the store.  The whole rack takes up about a cubic foot of counter space, the margins vary but are good, and I can fit about 400 pieces on this one display.  We sell a ton of hair bows.  What's the secret?  Solid colors, moderate price points...  versatile hair bows at reasonable prices = many bows being sold.  Easy enough, right?

As for other accessories, we also do well with shoes.  I cannot tell you how many shoes we sell for children who aren't even near walking age.  This concept baffles me.  Oh, well, as long as customers continue to buy them, we'll continue to sell them, I suppose.  Give the people what they want... ACCESSORIES!

I would like to add to this that ALL customers want moderately priced hair bows because baby girls take them out and lose them. I have people buy 2 or 3 of the same bow just to have for when (not if) their daughter loses one.
