Revenge Of The Snow Day
January 19, 2008

Our day of snow came and went quite uneventfully.  The schools were not closed and all of the children were quite disappointed.  Everyone went on about their everyday lives as usual (only with more milk and bread than is customary).  The store was opened and we had a normal business day.

Then came the weekend and, with it, a snowy vengeance.  Saturday, our most important day in retail, had to be the day that the snow would return.  We opened the store and went about our normal Saturday routine.  The store was packed early on; busier than normal for a Saturday morning.  I assumed that everyone was getting everything done before the snow started really falling.  The thing is, it stayed busy until around 2:30.

At this point we only had a handful of customers left.  One customer asked, "Why are y'all still here!?!"  (That is how many of us speak in these parts.)  The sales clerk replied to the customer, a regular, "Cuz' y'all crazy folks keep comin' in here an' shoppin'!"  They both laughed.  Another customer stopped in because she saw that we were opened and she had been on her way home.  She said the roads were not bad at all and that the snow was nothing really.  And then came the confession.  She was from Wisconsin.  Her husband, however, was obviously southern because he kept calling to check on his pregnant wife who was "out" in the snow.  It was later confirmed by the customer that her husband was, indeed, born and raised in the south.

We had a call from someone today who asked if we sold sleds.  (Huh?  I'm pretty sure that everyone in the south hops on pizza pans when they want to slide in the snow.  At least that's how we did it when our butts were smaller.)  No, we do not sell sleds.  We sell swimsuits year-round, though.  We had another customer drop off his family while he went to go buy sleds.  I know for a fact that there is not even enough snow on which to sled (I cannot tell you how I know, only that I know.)

Once the patronage thinned, though, we decided to head home.  The five of us in the Saturday carpool all live almost an hour north of the store so we opted to play it safe.  I had to take a photo, though, for you, my loyal readers.  This picture is of the store about an hour before we left.  Oh, why did the snow come on a Saturday?  Oh, well, I guess I'm going to go play games and watch movies with everyone else that is here.  Darn.
