Saturday Report
August 24, 2008
Despite the fact that one of our competitors was having a one day sale, we had a very busy Saturday. We had some notable customers come by, too.
I had two different customers who were in from out of town just to shop for their babies. The first came specifically to shop with us and the second came to shop every store in Atlanta. It was an honor to have people drive several hours just to come shop in our store.
We also had a diplomat come in on Saturday. The U.S. Ambassador to Nicaragua came in with his wife to get furniture for their first child. We have a very tight parking situation as it is and especially on a busy day like Saturday. The Ambassador came, though, with a police escort. It made for a great show in the parking lot! People didn't seem to mind the slight inconvenience because they were sharing the same store with a diplomat!
I did have one employee who went a little batty on me, though. She was the one assisting the Ambassador. She asked me, while in the office, how to handle the tax i.d. with his furniture purchase. She was holding his diplomat i.d. and drooling. She is a political science major and kept saying, "I've only ever seen pictures of these and now I'm holding one!" Silly goose.
The final person of interest caused a whispering around the counter. Another customer said to an employee, "Do you know who that is?" It was Martin Luther King III, son of Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. His family, of course, has a long history of being New Baby Products customers. My grandfather sold Mrs. Coretta Scott King her stroller over 40 years ago when he was a Stroll-O-Chair salesman. I only wish I had gotten the opportunity to shake hands with Mr. King when he was in the store on Saturday.
What a great weekend it was! I wish every day could be so busy and so interesting!
