Single Parenting
October 1, 2007

As much as I realize that our customers are rarely single parents, I also realize that many of us, the retailers, are single parents.  I was hoping for some personal feedback from some of you who may be in what is left of a broken family... especially if you've been able to overcome your circumstances.

My daughter, now approaching 9 years old, is showing signs of craving male attention.  She is also acting out and sassing me more than ever.  I truly believe that this is greatly  because she has no strong positive male role model in her life.  She only sees her father once every 6-8 months.

I really would like to meet someone to play the father role in my daughter's life, but how?  How does a single mother get to meet people... especially when she works with pregnant women and their husbands?!?  I haven't found the opportunity to meet people at church.  When I'm not in a service at church, I am volunteering in the nursery.  Online dating is far too dangerous.  So where does one go to meet people?  I can tell you right now that meeting guys at a bar is not for me.  I've tried that route and found only heartache and headaches.

And when does a single mother even have time to meet people?  I work full time at the store, write these blogs for Kids Today, volunteer in the church, and spend the rest of my time with my daughter.  I realize that this is more of a personal issue than a professional one but aren't we all people?  As people with the same types of schedules, do you find yourself in this boat or have you ever?  Any suggestions?  Any?
