Breaking The News When You're Expecting
April 7, 2008

In an article on MSN.com, "How I Spilled The Baby Beans", several moms share stories of spreading the news of a baby-on-the-way to friends and family.  It reminded me of some of the great stories that I've heard throughout the years.

An expectant dad recently told me that, when his wife found out she was expecting, she gave him a camoflage backpack with the pregnancy test tucked inside.  The backpack turned out to be his new diaper bag.  Several years ago, there was a mom I met who put a highchair in the dining room to surprise her husband.  Imagine his shock at that sight!

A family friend of ours found out that she was expecting just before the holidays.  On Christmas day each of her family members opened a wrapped package that contained a random baby object.  It took a few minutes but once they all realized that each had gotten a baby gift from the girl, they knew that a baby was on his way.

These stories, along with the countless tales from parenthood, are a great part of what makes my job so enjoyable.  There is no happier time in one's life than when there is a baby on the way.  Not wedding days, not graduations, nothing... nothing takes the place of bringing a life into the world.  I am so blessed to be a part of my customers' happiest time.
