Typical Monday... why bother?
June 25, 2007
Today was just like most Mondays... hectic! All the problems of the previous week seem to surface on Monday while you're trying to prepare for the coming week. I often wonder why I'm there. What possesed me to work for the family business? Further more, what in the world was I thinking when I agreed to handle damages, returns, defects, etc.? It took some deep thought on the way home and I realized that there are two reasons.
My first reason for doing the job I do is that I love the business. I love my family and I love working for and with them. I love my customers. I want to see problems resolved. I understand how important it is for an expecting family to have everything in place when it's time. Their happiness is important to me. It's idealistic, I know, but it's the truth.

My second, and most important reason... my daughter. Like most things we do as parents, our childrens' best interests are usually at the center of our actions. There isn't much in this world I wouldn't do if it would benefit my child. I sometimes let this slide to the back burner, but this motivation is always behind what ever else may be happening. Sometimes work stresses me out and she sees the effects. She also sees, though, how important it is to work hard and have goals. She sees the importance of communication and cooperation.
What are your motivations for doing what you do? Do you have children for whom you'd do just about anything? I think my daughter helps to refresh my idealism and keep me in line when Mondays get the best of me. What helps keep you on track?
