The legacy of my grandparents
July 2, 2007

Often times when we end up working in the family business, we follow in the footsteps of one set of grandparents.  I was born into the baby business from my mother's side of the family.  My maternal grandparents have been a great influence in my life.  What most people don't realize, though, is that I also am influenced by my paternal grandparents.  It didn't fully occur to me until I was reading Lisa's blog about how she always wanted to write that  I, too, always wanted to write.

The need to write was influenced long ago by my "Pop-Pop" & "Bar-Bar".  Both are now semi-retired but have extensive writing careers.  Pop-Pop is the retired Washington bureau cheif for the Los Angeles Times.  He has several novels, has taught journalism at Harvard, and has a Pulitzer Prize.  Who wouldn't look up to a grandfather like that?  My Bar-Bar is the retired senior editor of Washingtonian Magazine and a professional children's story teller.  As children, my sisters and I would obsess about hearing a story the moment Bar-Bar walked into the room.

I feel it was meant to be that I would end up writing about the industry that I love so much... an amazing combination of my grandparents' legacies.  I am very grateful to Kids Today for the opportunity.  I am also grateful to you, the reader, for indulging my love for writing and the baby products business.
