Holiday Theft
November 14, 2007

It's that time of year again... time for the creeps to come out.  No, it's not Halloween and the bad guys aren't wearing masks.  They look just like you, just like me.  It's the time of year when thieves-at-heart become thieves-in-action... it's time for the holidays.

Unassuming individuals will prey on the sympathies of your employees while trying to shoplift, write fraudulent checks, and more.  We have recently experienced a wave of customers trying to place online orders from other countries and each one has been found to be attempted fraud.  We simply do not accept orders outside of the continental US for this reason.

We also have recently had an employee's wallet stolen by a "customer".  What is more heartless than taking someone's hard-earned money while they are actually working?  Well, it gets worse.  We also have had someone trying to place a phone order for an "orphanage".  Who doesn't feel sorry for orphans?  Obviously criminals don't but they prey on the fact that the rest of us do because this was also attempted fraud.

There is another woman who tried to write fraudulent checks... twice!  Hello!?!  Did she not get the hint the first time she was denied???  We have her on video both times.  These people are not very smart.  They are brave, though.  Be careful.

Our surveillance system has helped to curb shoplifting but it is only a matter of time before someone gets caught in the act.  After all, it is that time of year.  Happy holidays, everyone!  Don't relax, though, the winter crime season is just beginning!
