ABC... More Than A Buying Show
September 4, 2007

ABC is more than just a buying show.  It is a convention, a gathering of individuals with a similar passion... in this case the baby products industry.  It is an opportunity for one to socialize and network with other "baby people".

This weekend I was at a different sort of convention in downtown Atlanta.  A friend who was visiting invited me to DragonCon at the Hyatt Regency (near America's Mart).  Ten short years ago I'd have fit in just fine with the colored hair, black boots, and costumed attire.  While watching varying versions of the "old me" walk past, I realized that I no longer belonged in this type of convention.  I longed for the company of other parents and "baby people".  I stood in the crowd watching and day dreaming of people bustling amongst baby product vendors.  It sounds rediculous (I'm well aware, thank you) but I really do live for this stuff.

It took feeling out of my element for me to realize what my element truly is.  I belong to the baby industry.  I spent many years trying to avoid this industry... followed by years of denying that I belonged to it!  I have since come to embrace the baby business with all of my heart.

I hope that, as you are all overworked and exhausted at ABC, you will enjoy the show for what it really is... an experience.  I hope that you will savor the time you can spend in a charged social atmosphere with like-minded friends.  Enjoy being in your element!

Post Script:
The Labor Day Sale was a huge success!!!
