Another Economic Punch In The Gut
September 17, 2008

As we see the U.S. government bailing out large entities like Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and now AIG, I have to wonder where this kind of spending fits into our over-taxed federal budget.  In addition, hurricanes Gustav and Ike have caused enough issues in the Texas and Louisiana oil refineries to set gas prices back to the summer highs.  With all of this going on, are we looking at the overall cost of living increasing even more?  I dare say that I do believe so.  Not only that, but we may be facing higher taxes in the coming years to offset the incredible deficit from corporate bail-outs and a very expensive war.

With that said, how are manufacturers going to be able to cater to the American public's demand for U.S. made goods?  I've already seen a trend of manufacturing jobs being brought back here from overseas because of consumer demand.  I think that this trend may stall out soon.

While I don't see a decrease in our industry, there may be shifts that put many smaller companies out of business because of production costs.  I also don't see an increase in wages in the near future.  As gas prices and health care costs sky-rocket along with the costs on consumer goods, many of our stores just cannot fork over any more money to employees.

These are tough times in which we live.  I'm glad that my family is living in God's economy.  That just means that we've been blessed and we continue to be blessed because we know from where our blessings come.
