Webkinz... The Next Beanie Baby
August 21, 2007

Any parent of a tween can tell you what a Webkinz is.  It's the hottest thing on the market... hotter than beanie babies were!  For those of you who don't know, it's a low quality plush toy that comes with a secret code in an attached pouch.  The animal, is by no means, what you are paying for.  What a Webkinz is to a tween is status.  With the included secret code, you can enter Webkinz World... virtual home to all Webkinz creatures.  The virtual Webkinz animal can build a house, grow a garden, play solitary or competitive games, buy food, clothing, and other merchandise, and much more.  There are obviously some big dollars behind the website but Ganz, the manufacturer, can certainly afford it with the way these things sell.  At the present they are not accepting new accounts for Webkinz retailers.  You can order Webkinz online but typically not from liscensed retailers or at suggested retail pricing.  Hey, I paid $30 to get a Koala that you could win out of a "claw machine" for my tween.  Was it worth the high price?  Absolutely every penny.  My daughter and I have never had a common interest that we both enjoyed so much.  As a retailer, I encourage you to try and get Webkinz (if you can handle the required minimum Ganz order that cannot include Webkinz).  As a mother, I encourage you to get your child(ren) Webkinz and try out some of those games.  See if you don't find yourself feeling like a kid again.
