Independent Retailers Vs. Walmart
July 23, 2007

It has been speculated that Walmart's stock will be increasing in value.  This is due, in part, to the fact that they are planning on slightly down-sizing their retail space.  One of the main complaints that most of us have with Walmart is well-stated in the MSN article, "Walmart's Rebound Worth Buying Into."  The writer says, "[Walmart] cuts back variety and nuance in the retail space by wiping out mom-and-pop shops -- that bulk creates problems from a business perspective as well."

We all know that Walmart is closing down specialty stores of all types nationwide.  The fact that the mass distribution of bulk products "creates problems from a business perspective" is actually our greatest asset.  They cannot possibly offer quality or service in bulk.  As long as the Walmarts & other big box stores don't find a way to mass produce individual customer care, we have a fighting chance.  I would encourage all of you, as independent retailers, not to buy products from these big box stores... even if we're talking Sam's Club toilet paper.  You have the ability to chose so do so wisely.
