Presidents Day
February 18, 2008

A friend of mine said to me that Presidents Day is little more than an excuse for retailers to put things on sale.  I suppose he has a point.  Of course this was not the original purpose for the holiday, but why not use every excuse to bring in high volume traffic?

Our Presidents Day Sale was a huge success!  In years past, we have not always used every possible chance to hold special sales, though.  This, I believe, was an example of how have we missed the boat on great business-building opportunities.  Presidents Day is particularly important because of the holiday's proximity to tax time.  I'm not talking about taking customer's tax refunds (although, as a retailer, we'll gladly do that, too).  The Presidents Day Sale allows us to move merchandise before we have to take inventory.  It's really a win-win time for a sale.

Did anyone else run big Presidents Day Sales?  I'm sure that you did.  I wonder, though,  if any of you might have missed the boat on holding a Presidents Day Sale this year.  Take it from me, this is an opportunity that every retailer should embrace.  Well, there's always next year for those of you who did miss out.
