Fun & History In Savannah
February 25, 2008
For those of you who are going to the Kids Today Conference, make sure you take in some fun & history while in Savannah. For good shopping including baked goods and confections, River Street is a must. Quaint shops border the Savannah River. The view here is charming.
Savannah also has several period homes that can be toured including the Mercer Williams House Museum, featured in the novel (and subsequently the movie staring Kevin Spacey) Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. Another historical home that is open to the public is the Juliet Gordon Lowe birthplace. For those who don't know, she founded the Girl Scouts. Be prepared to hang out with lots of little girls if you make this stop.
My personal favorite and a frequent stop on the many city tours is Bonaventure Cemetery. It's haunting beauty is unforgetable. If you see only one sight while in Savannah, this has to be it. The cemetery truly encompasses the history, sophistication, and "spirit" (pun intended) for which the city is known. See you there!
