Super Tuesday
February 4, 2008

Like many of you, my state will be headed to the polls tomorrow for the presidential primaries.  Also like many of you, I have to work tomorrow.  I will be leaving the house extra early to go vote.  My mom will be with my daughter, Kailey, while she gets ready for school.  I will stand in line, stand in line, and stand in line some more.  "Why bother with primaries?" some ask me.  Every chance to vote is a chance to speak your mind.

I challenge you who own businesses to encourage your employees to go vote, regardless of which way they will vote.  I find that voting makes me feel empowered.  Every person needs to feel important.  People who feel important in one aspect of life often desire to make themselves important in every aspect of life.  This, in turn, can lead to higher rates of productivity.  Yes, it's a stretch to say that encouraging your employees to go vote may boost productivity but it cannot hurt.  The only disadvantage is that they may need to leave early.  As for me, I cannot wait to cast my ballot.

Post Script:
My vote is actually more valuable in the primaries than it is in an election because I vote with one party while most of my state votes for the other.  At least in primaries, I am helping to choose who will represent my party against the rest of my home state.
