Don't Make Me Spank Your Child!
August 3, 2007

I occasionally have parents in the store who refuse to discipline their children.  I know that you have all seen it in some form or another when in public.  Is it because parents are afraid to discipline their children in front of others?  I think that is a small part of it for some people. More so, I think it's because parents are scared to discipline their children because they want to be "liked" by them.  WHAT?  Last time I checked, my mom doesn't care if I like her or not.  Her love is enough for both of us and she will not hesitate to practice tough love.

What sort of example do we, the retailer, set by ignoring a customer's hellion child?  What is acceptable for us to say to a child who is destroying our store or to his parent?  At what point is enough actually enough?  I know I'm not the only one who wants to shout, "Don't make me spank your child!"  I sometimes even think someone should spank the parent!  Can you relate?
