Lily's pad can have frogs too

February 2, 2009

Frogs and snails and puppy dog tails, according to the nursery rhyme, are what little boys are made of.

But I know for a fact that little girls like frogs too. Sure, they may see them as "cute," rather than "slimy" like the boys see them, but girls can be smitten with them as well.

I speak from experience. My sister and I used to pretend we were "raising" tadpoles in an old wheelbarrow behind the garage. We would check on them every day, and before long, tiny little froggies were hopping around.

And I distinctly recall my first day of first grade, when I discovered a tiny frog in the grass just off the school walkway. I scooped him up and gently placed him my schoolbag. I couldn't wait for recess, so I could play with him. I was heartbroken when I couldn't find him at recess, even after pulling out my composition book, crayons and pencils.

And as smitten as I was with that little guy, I am even moreso with some of these:

Freddie Gone Fishing from Davenport Home Furnishings Freddie Gone Fishing

This wall peg plaque measures 5.5x7.5”.

A hand-painted frog leaps from the center panel of this single drop-side crib, while sage green finials add the perfect finishing touch. At 46” in diameter, it is crafted of maple, birch and beechwood. The mattress has two heights, and the wheel casters lock.
Lolligags Frog from Manhattan Toy Lolligags Frog

Extra-long and super soft, this 15” playful frog has an engaging embroidered face that will make everyone smile. He has a chubby round belly and lanky limbs.
Frog Clock from Jubilee Frog Clock
Jubilee, $66

Hand-painted in soft shades, this clock stands 10.25” tall and 8.25” wide.

Little Man Dish Set from Demdaco Little Man Dish Set

This cup, bowl and plate set has a frog and seashore motif and comes gift boxed with a window front and handle.
Prince Potty Chair from Teamson Prince Potty Chair

Hand-painted and hand-carved potty chair in purple, blue and brown.
Flip the Frog from Infantino Flip the Frog
Infantino, $14.99

With a rattling sand bucket, floaties, flippers and water mask there is a lot of fun for baby to explore with this.
Jessie Frog from Bebe Chic Jessie Frog

Bring whimsy to the nursery with this 16x20” giclee wall art by artist Sherri Blum that matches a bedding collection of the same name.
Wetlands Organic Blanket from Amenity Home Wetlands Organic Blanket

What a great habitat for baby to learn about the environment.
