Things All the Cool Kids Should Have

A lot of really neat products pass across our desks here at Kids Today. 

Here’s just a brief peek at some of the juvenile products that have a definite "Wow Factor."

Squeeze-Me Mittens from Oeuf.
Squeeze-Me Mittens are 100% alpaca. They are adult-sized mittens, with a child sized mitten knitted onto the palm, Oeuf, $58.

Not only do these bibs have a catch pocket, they’re dishwasher safe! After mealtime, just toss ‘em in the washer with the dishes!  PVC and phthalate free, and available in JJ Cole, $5.95.

The Slat Rack from Wallter. The Slat Rack hangs on the wall and holds all sorts of kid stuff. It’s powder-coated steel, 22×18" (2 are shown), and come in 4 colors, Wallter, $145.
The tree house from Plan Toys. This fanciful tree house has three levels on its trunk of curved plywood. The top level has a canvas canopy covering a living area with a table and chairs. There is a working pulley and pallet to hoist objects to the upper levels. The tree house set includes a table, two chairs, a bucket, a rope ladder, a swing and two figures, Plan Toys, $85.

The Tri-Chair does triple duty with no re-assembly required. It’s a desk (at left); a rocking horse when it’s rotated upside down (center); and a booster chair when it sits upright (at right). It is constructed of MDF that contains recycled materials, a powder coating that has no solvents, with the overspray recycled for reuse, Trichair, $159.


Retail Business Kit for Dummies by Rick Segel. Okay, so maybe it’s the cool grownup kids who might have this… Retail Business Kit for Dummies, 2nd edition, by Rick Segel, is a practical how-to guide on starting and running a business in today’s marketplace—from your original dream and day-to-day operations to establishing a connection with customers and increasing your sales, both on the Web and at a brick-and-mortar shop, Wiley Publishing, $34.99.

The BoomDesk has a magnetic lid lock that keeps items safely inside, in 4 compartments. An included audio cord allows for connection to any game, audio or video system. Also has two speakers, and is battery powered, LumiSource, $60.

The Time Out Pad from Keen Distribution. When a child misbehaves, plop them down on the Time Out Pad. Simply set the built-in timer (usually 1 minute per year of the child’s age) and sit the child on the pressure-sensitive pad. If the child gets up before the timer is done, an alarm will sound. The countdown will pause until the child sits back down. When the timer goes off, it plays a tune, Keen Distribution, $34.95.
Drive In wall art from Jellio Design. Remember Revell models? They were the plastic car kits we used to put together when we were young, with a little glue and a lot of patience. Drive In is inspired by those classic toys, and is a limited edition wall sculpture, Jellio Design, $2,500.

It's always nice to have a fan LOL. Yes, some of my upcoming blogs will be black & white; purple; chocolate mint; and brocades. And the 'cool kids' theme will certainly have to be a repeat - I've already started collecting more neat products for next time. Let me know if you've seen something really neat for kids!
